
It is named after Breukelen which is a Dutch city. Among the five boroughs of the New York City Brooklyn is one if them. It remained independent till 1898 after which it was consolidated to New York. According to the 2005 Census Brooklyn accommodates 583,922 families, 880,727 households and 2,486,235 people in total.
